Best Response - Why do you require my Social Insurance Number (SIN)?

Why do you require my Social Insurance Number?

Under the Income Tax Act, recipients of scholarships, bursaries, travel grants and other types of student awards must be issued a T4A information slip. The University, as the issuer of T4As, has a legislated obligation to ask for and report Social Insurance Numbers (SINs) on the slips.

Beginning with the 2019 tax year, T2202 (formerly T2202A) slips will also require SINs. The University issues a T2202 slip to every student with total eligible tuition fees of more than $100 for the tax year.

Read more about the T2202 form on the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website. The CRA website also provides information about Social Insurance Number legislation that relates to the preparation of information slips.

If your SIN is not on file with the Office of Registrarial Services, you must provide it through WebAdvisor. To submit your SIN, log in to WebAdvisor. In the menu on the left-hand side of your screen, under "Financial Information", click on "SIN Entry/Status". Enter your SIN and click "Submit".

T2202 and T4A slips are issued in late February of each year.
