When will I find out if my application has been accepted?

New students:
By the end of May, all currently enrolled Ontario secondary school applicants will have received one of three types of admission decisions from all Ontario universities

  • an offer of admission,
  • a refusal, or
  • a deferral pending the receipt of specific additional information.

Offers to the University of Guelph (which will include scholarship and residence application information) will be conditional upon completion of OSSD and six 4U or 4M (or equivalents) including required courses and a minimum final average outlined in the offer letter.

*Offers of Admission may be made to students who fall within 5% below the determined cut-off range on the basis of the Student Profile Form (SPF). Although not required, all students are encouraged to complete the SPF.

June 1 is the Admission Response Deadline Date for Ontario applicants currently enrolled in secondary school. These responses should be sent to the Ontario Universities' Application Centre.

This is also the Residence Application Deadline Date. The residence application form is available on-line and you will receive information in your offer package on how to access this form . The completed application form and the required deposit to Student Housing Services must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. EST, June 1, to guarantee you a space in one of our residence living environments. In August, room assignments are completed and will be sent to you. International students can request their assignment to be faxed to them. Transfer students:
Transfer applicants applying from a post-secondary institution can normally expect to receive a conditional offer of admission upon receipt of transcripts.  The admission response date for transfer students is three weeks after the offer has been made.

International applicants:
If you have applied to more than one Ontario university...:
If we have received your mid-term grade data and estimated final results by March 1, you will receive an admission decision prior to May, which will allow you sufficient time to be considered for scholarships and to meet the June 1st residence application deadline. For applications submitted after March 1, offers of admission will be made on an ongoing basis.

If you applied direct to U of G:
If we have received your mid-term grade data and estimated final results by March 1, you will receive an admission decision prior to May, which will allow you sufficient time to be considered for scholarships and to meet the June 1st residence application deadline. For applications completed after March 1, offers of admission will be made on an ongoing basis.

Internal applicants (program transfer):
Decisions on program transfer will normally be made when final grades from the current semester are received. Students who have been required to withdraw must reapply through Admission Services.  Decisions will be mailed to your home address and to your U of Guelph e-mail account.  Decisions are also available on WebAdvisor.



Will I get more than one offer of admission from U of G?

Students will be considered for all programs to which they've applied at Guelph. Please see our Admission Plan for information about when offers are sent out and how admission averages are calculated.

When do I have to respond to my offer of admission?

The response deadline for your offer of admission is indicated in your offer letter. For students currently enrolled in an Ontario secondary school, the deadline is June 1. If you applied through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre, your response must be received by June 1 at the OUAC website.

This is also the Residence Application Deadline date. The completed application and deposit must be received by June 1. For more information, see the Student Housing website.

International students who applied directly to the University of Guelph must forward their response to Admission Services, UC Level 3, University of Guelph, 50 Stone Road East, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, N1G 2W1 by the deadline indicated in the offer letter.

The response deadline date for transfer students is usually three weeks from the offer date and is included in your offer letter.

If you do not respond by the deadline, the University cannot guarantee that your space will be held. The University cannot be held responsible for complications due to mail or courier delivery delays.

What do you mean by conditional offer of admission?

Conditional offers of admission require that you:

  • complete your OSSD (or equivalent high school diploma); and,
  • complete six Grade 12 U or M courses (or equivalent) including required subjects, or equivalent; and,
  • maintain a minimum final average as outlined in your offer letter of admission (including specific subject requirements)

Canadian applicants from outside of Ontario will have their admission averages calculated using Grade 12 grades, including specific subject requirements.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have met the conditions of your offer as soon as your school year has ended. If you are concerned that you may not meet the conditions you must contact Admission Services immediately to see what options exist. Students not meeting the above conditions will have their offer of admission revoked.

International applicants and students transferring from an university or college to the University of Guelph are evaluated on an individual basis. The conditions of admission will be clearly stated in the offer letter.

Can I defer my acceptance of the offer of admission?


Undergraduate Students
